There are three main types of eye laser surgery.

The newest and most popular type of eye laser surgery is called LASIK. Under this procedure, a thin layer of the eye's cornea is sliced off to create a flap. This enables the laser to target the tissue underneath. The flap is simply replaced and grows back naturally. Vision is restored almost immediately.

Another option is EPIFLAP or LASEK surgery. This involves the partial removal of the epithelium or outer layer of cells on the eye to reveal the cornea. The cornea is then flattened or reshaped by a laser and the outer cells are pushed back and the eye heals within a few days.

PRK was the standard eye laser surgery for many years. It involved the complete removal of the epithelium or the outer layer of cells on the eye.

LASIK is usually used on patients with severe long sight or short sight. LASIK is used on patients with moderate or mild short sight.

University of Maryland researchers suggest that carotenoids, particularly lycopene may protect the eye against oxidative damage and play a critical role in visual function. The identification of lycopene and a diverse range of dietary carotenoids in ocular tissues suggest that these carotenoids, as well as other nutrients found in tomato-based foods, may work in concert with lutein and zeaxanthin to provide protection against age related macular degeneration and other visual disorders.

All different types of laser eye surgeries are basically considered safe, and actually there can be a very rare complication that more so can happen if one goes with the bladeless method; something called "transient light sensitivity", that happens to less than 1 percent of IntraLase patients, and is also treatable.

I have a friend who's been wanting to do lasik in Idaho Falls for a while now, but just can't afford it. How much does it cost exactly? I've been thinking of maybe at least pitching in to help my friend afford it. I know it would be a great blessing for them.

LASIK has been shown to be a very effective procedure, and most patients are very happy with their vision following the procedure. However, like any surgical procedure, LASIK does come with some risks. In order for you to decide whether LASIK surgery is right for you, you need to be aware of potential risks and complications and weigh these carefully before proceeding with surgery.Treatment depends on the individual eye condition..
