How the surgery is carried out of ALK

Even when each procedure varies a little, generally, in the ALK for the myopia the surgeon cuts a strip along the front of the cornea with a microqueratome (a surgical instrument). The strip doubles in the side and a thin slice of weaving is eradicated since the surface of the cornea. The eradication of the weaving crushes the central cornea, or the optical zone, reducing the refraction. The strip returns to its place, where adheres without need of stitches. During the surgery ALK for the farsightedness, the surgeon carries out a deeper incision inside the cornea with the microqueratome (a surgical instrument) to create the strip. The internal pressure of the eye causes that the surface of the cornea stretch and a protuberance be formed. The protuberant cornea improves the optic power, correcting the farsightedness. The strip returns to its place, where adheres without need of stitches.
